Metal and technical jobs in the Netherlands: which roles are available?
Employers across the Netherlands are looking for motivated EU workers. Experience is a plus, but not always required. With good guidance and training, you can often start right away. These are some of the roles you can consider:
Welder
Do you have experience with MIG/MAG, TIG or electrode welding? Welders are in high demand in the Netherlands. No welding certificates yet? In some cases you can start as an assistant welder and learn the trade on the job.
Metalworker
As a metalworker you saw, bend, drill and assemble metal. You can start as an assistant metalworker and grow step by step in the metal trade.
Mechanic
Do you enjoy working with your hands and fixing or improving things? Then a job as a mechanic might be perfect for you.
- Breakdown mechanic: you solve malfunctions in production lines or machines.
- All-round mechanic: you carry out maintenance and repairs on all kinds of installations, for example in agriculture and horticulture.
(Speaking Dutch is not always necessary. With technical insight and motivation, you will go a long way!)
Technical service employee
As a technical service employee you make sure that everything in and around company buildings, greenhouses or workshops runs smoothly and safely. For example:
- Repairing machines and equipment.
- Maintaining bicycles for colleagues or housing for other flex workers.
- Carrying out small jobs to keep operations running.
Operator
As an operator you control machines and monitor the production process. You step in when something goes wrong and make sure the quality stays high.
- Assistant operator: a great starting point if you are new to the technical field and eager to learn.
- Experienced operator: ready for more responsibility? Grow into a head operator or team leader role.

How much can you earn in metal & engineering in the Netherlands?
Jobs in the Dutch metal and engineering sector pay well.
