Travelling to the Netherlands for work: how it works at ABflexkracht

Working in the Netherlands through ABflexkracht is a new adventure for many people. It usually starts with your trip from home to the Netherlands. If you live in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine or another country, you might be wondering: how do I get there, and how do I arrange my transport?

With almost 60 years of experience, ABflexkracht is happy to provide advice and clear information. We make sure you’re well prepared and know what to expect; before you leave, when you arrive, and during your stay and work. Important: the journey from your country to the Netherlands is always your own responsibility.

Travelling to the Netherlands for work: you arrange the trip

Your first step is getting from your hometown to the Netherlands. ABflexkracht does not book this transport for you, but we do share information and practical tips on the options. From many cities in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and other countries, (mini)buses run to the Netherlands every day. You can also choose to fly or drive your own car.

Whichever option you prefer, you book and arrange the transport yourself.

Option 1: travel by bus or minibus

Many temporary workers from Central and Eastern Europe travel to the Netherlands by (mini)bus. Daily international services run from numerous cities in Poland, Romania and beyond. These routes are often affordable and comfortable. You book directly with the transport company.

Option 2: fly to the Netherlands

If the distance is large (for example from parts of Romania or Ukraine), flying can be the better choice. We can advise you on suitable flights and airports. Many workers arrive at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam); Eindhoven Airport is also an option. You choose and book your flight yourself.

Option 3: drive your own car

Do you have your own car and prefer to drive? That’s possible too. We’ll agree in advance when and where you’re expected, at our office or directly at your accommodation. Please make sure your car is in good condition and fit for a long journey (roughly 1,000 km from Poland; 1,800+ km from Romania). Parking is usually available at our accommodations.

Your arrival in the Netherlands: we’ll be there

The big day is here: you arrive in the Netherlands! Whether you come by bus, car, train, or plane, you won’t be on your own. ABflexkracht welcomes you and helps you get to your final destination. We usually agree on a meeting point in advance: either our office or directly at your accommodation.

If you travel independently (bus, car, or train), we’ll stay in touch about your arrival time. Often, one of your new housemates or an ABflexkracht colleague will greet you at the accommodation. Your key will be ready, and we’ll show you around right away: your room, the kitchen, the bathroom, and shared spaces. You’ll also get handy local tips: where to find the supermarket, how to commute to work, and other essentials.lis pretium. Integer tincidunt. Cras dapibus.

Your personnel coordinator will introduce themselves and support you from day one. We’ll help you with important administrative steps, such as:

  • obtaining your BSN number at the municipality;
  • arranging health insurance;
  • reviewing and signing your employment contract.

Most of these formalities are handled together with you in the first week after arrival, so you’ll be ready to work in the Netherlands as quickly as possible.

Your daily commute in the Netherlands: simple and sorted

Your daily transport from accommodation to workplace is arranged together with ABflexkracht once you’re in the Netherlands. We aim to place your housing close to your job, so distances are short and cycling is often the easiest option. If the distance fits, we’ll provide an ABflexkracht bike—a perfect way to discover Dutch cycling culture.

When the commute is longer, we organise alternative transport. This can include a shared car with colleagues. All vehicles we provide are safe and well maintained. Do you have a driving licence but no car? In some cases, you can use an ABflexkracht car for your home-to-work commute.

If you live within walking distance, you simply walk to work. In every case, our goal is the same: no stress, no long travel times, and a reliable start to your day.

Travelling home & taking leave during your work period

Planning to travel home during or after your assignment? You arrange and pay for this trip yourself; by bus, train, plane, or car. Please coordinate in time with us and your employer if you want to take holiday or time off, so everything is properly planned.

With weekly payments at ABflexkracht, you receive your wages every Thursday. That makes it easier to budget. For example, when planning a trip home.

Frequently asked questions about transport to and within the Netherlands

Can I drive my own car to the Netherlands and use it for commuting?
Prefer to drive? Perfectly fine. We’ll align on arrival time and meeting point, and you can usually park at your accommodation. You may use your car for commuting; if the client’s CAO includes a per-kilometre reimbursement, those costs are covered under that scheme. Please ensure international insurance, and remember that fuel may cost more here than at home.

Are my travel costs from Poland/Romania/Ukraine to the Netherlands reimbursed?
No. The trip to the Netherlands is at your own expense. ABflexkracht does not advance these costs and does not deduct them from your wages later.

Will someone pick me up when I arrive in the Netherlands (e.g. at the airport)?
If you share your arrival time and location in good time, we’ll make sure you are received at your accommodation or at an agreed meeting point. On arrival at the accommodation, someone will usually be there to let you in and show you around.

Do I need to buy my own train/bus ticket, or does ABflexkracht do that?
You book and pay for your ticket to the Netherlands yourself. We’re happy to advise on possible routes and connections.
